Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell……The Truth
The Truth Will Set You Free
All Truth emanates from one place and one place only; Christ Himself via the Catholic Church. Thus, the Truth is contained in Scripture and Sacred Tradition as manifested in the living teaching authority of the Church. Christ himself entrusted His and the Apostles’ oral teachings to the Catholic Church from the beginning, along with the authority to interpret Scripture correctly. Thank God – literally – for the Truth.
There’s a great song from the 1960′s called, “What the World Needs Now is Love”, a classic by Hal David and Burt Bacharach. If we fast forward to 2010, the song should be rewritten to “What America Needs Now is Truth”. For a country that was founded by Christians, developed by Christians, whose population was fueled by Christian immigration, and thus owes the entirety of its successes to its Judeo-Christian foundation, we are in desperate need of the Truth. As sad as it may seem – and scary – the absence of the Truth in our society for so long now may be the cause for America as we remembered it (those of us who are old enough) fading away. I hope not, I have children. For it was Jesus Christ, the personification of God, who said in John 8:31-32;
“If you remain in my Word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.”
Policy on Homosexuals in the Military Should be Repealed
I remember the moment when my dislike for President Clinton was cemented (although I warmed up to him somewhat as time went by). It was in the first days of his Presidency when he announced that he was going to overturn the military’s rules regarding homosexuals which basically forced homosexuals to live in fear of their jobs if found out. Although I recognize homosexuality for what it is; a violation of divine and natural law, I could not and cannot agree with dishonorably discharging (or what was called an “undesirable discharge”) someone from the military because they admit to being openly gay. These people are putting their lives on the line for me and my family, for the protection of America, and for that they should be treated equally to heterosexuals – but not their sexual behavior. So now let me be clear.
Although I support repealing “Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell”, I absolutely expect the military to discharge anyone who is caught having gay sex, just as I expect the military to fire anyone caught in a deviant heterosexual encounter. The United States Military should “never” allow homosexuality to equate heterosexuality via allowing enlisted men and women to have gay sex openly on the taxpayer’s dime. With regard to homosexuality and deviant heterosexuality, the current law should continue, that ”it would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability.” So the new law should simply state that if you are an admitted homosexual the military will provide you the opportunity to serve your country should you choose. But if you are caught engaging in homosexual behavior, you will be fired.
Now, let me say what angers me about this issue. Similar to when President Clinton took up “Gays in the Military” as one of his signature efforts in the first 100 days of his Presidency, so is President Obama elevating this issue WAY above where it should be. Here’s a new President (Clinton) who didn’t even win 50% of the national vote, who inherited a shaky economy, uncertainty in Eastern Europe and other material economic and political issues and he chooses to pander to the homosexual voting block by pissing off the US military? I immediately lost respect for President Clinton as he demonstrated himself as a typical liberal. Thankfully for America, President Clinton moved to the right after his party got their butts kicked in 1994.
And now for some unknown reason, in the midst of the worst economic downturn in 80 years that is far from over, with two wars being waged on foreign soil, with terrorists killing Americans on our soil, with close to 20% of the US workforce either unemployed or underemployed, with America’s economic dominance being marginalized due to an unprecedented increase in our national debt and with the American citizenry torn apart more than ever by a completely unwanted national health care push, this President takes up Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell???????? This President so far has shown an abject failure to deliver anything to America of any real importance and now he’s chooses to pander to the homosexual voting block? Unbelievable…………no believable.
Americans Have Become Afraid to Speak the Truth
Political correctness and a genuine fear of being branded a racist, homophobe, male chauvinist, ignorant, judgmental or any other label used by the left to repress honest and open dialogue have forced many Americans to stop speaking the Truth, especially Conservatives. Political correctness began to strangle this country in the early 1990s and the left-wing/mainstream media took to it like a hobo on a ham sandwich (uh oh, was that politically incorrect?). In the workplace, in coffee shops, at parties, and in public speaking, people have become terrified to speak the Truth simply because they don’t want their opinions of the Truth to be unfairly slandered.
More accurately, many Americans either keep the Truth to themselves or speak it amongst friends only. Nothing has been more detrimental to our society over the past twenty years in my opinion. Mainly because Conservatives are on the right side of the Truth. Because the mainstream media has always been – and became more - overwhelmingly bent to the left, the country has not framed enough of our national discourse from a Conservative point of view. And we’re suffering for it.
Liberals use their loud, angry and condescending message that “You better be politically correct or else!” to shut people up and make them toe the left’s line. And the “or else” has become more than just fear of embarrassment or being branded a racist, homophobe or whatever. It’s full fledged exposure to say losing your job over a sniff of sexual harassment or some supposed workplace discrimination against diversity; public humiliation if you’re someone of notoriety; to outright fear of being sued thanks to the proliferation of certain legal counsel unashamed to use the courts to prop up the canard of political correctness (see ACLU).
I came upon the following video from a Savannah, Georgia television station. I only wish I could be so articulate regarding the poison to our culture that is political correctness like the VP/General Manager of this station is. Please watch.
Conservative Talk Radio and Fox News; Beacons in the Night
Thank God for Conservative talk radio and the advent of the Fox New Channel to smash the political correctness glass ceiling. Why do you think Conservative talk radio exploded in the 1990s and remains unbelievably popular to this day? Because Conservative talk radio became one of the only places Americans could go to hear the Truth as they remembered it. It was Truth from the underground. All other avenues were gone; ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, mostly all the major newspapers, mostly all magazines, Hollywood, Universities, High Schools, politicians, I could go on. Perhaps the most pathetic reaction to Conservative dominance on talk radio is the ill fated Air America; liberal talk radio. Two and a half years after it launched in 2004, it was bankrupt. Air America was purchased for a meager $4.25 million in March of 2007 and less than three years later it was bankrupt – again; a double failure. Americans searching for Truth had categorically rejected it.
Then there’s cable news. CNN was born thirty years ago, and until they became the Clinton News Network in defense of President Clinton’s indefensible personal behavior and pandered to the left, I remember CNN being fair and balanced believe it or not. I could say the same thing about MSNBC at first. But as it soon morphed into Pravda on American soil and the loudspeaker for all Bush haters. With that Max Headroom-looking idiot Keith Olbermann spewing hatred nightly almost to the point of having an aneurysm and Rachel Maddow following with more liberal bilge delivered with all the omniscience and smugness we’ve come to expect from the left, MSNBC can’t be taken seriously. As is the case with Conservative talk radio, the Fox News Channel dominates the cable airwaves. Why? Because Americans, especially moderates and Conservatives, are hungry for the Truth and although Fox News does its share of unbridled liberal bashing (e.g., Sean Hannity), its programming is absolutely fair and balanced. From the 5 o’clock to 10 o’clock slots, Fox viewership destroys CNN and MSNBC combined.
Liberalism – The Enemy of the Truth
Modern liberalism, born in the 1960s, is completely incongruent with the Truth in my opinion. What we see happening right now in America is a protracted social, political, and economic battle between liberals and the rest of us. The problem is that the flower children of the 1960s are precisely the Generals in charge of the liberal war on American culture and ideals. The Woodstock generation is in charge of all three branches of the Federal Government, own the media (save Fox News, Conservative talk radio, the Wall Street Journal and a few others thank God), completely possess almost all institutions of learning, and have most of the judiciary. That is just absolutely frightening.
But there’s a (thick) silver lining here; America is still a Center/Right Country. Even though liberals have focused all their energies over the past forty years to amass this power, their ideology has failed to catch on where it really matters; Main Street and the American voter. The Democratic resurgence in 2006 and 2008 had zero to do with their liberal platform and had everything to do with Iraq War fatigue, Bush hatred and a Republican Party that had become, well, too liberal. And now just one year after America bought into another liberal lie via Barrack Obama we’re paying for it dearly.
America, DON’T ASK a liberal for the Truth because liberals DON’T TELL the Truth.

Before I address the main topic, allow me to throw my opinion into the ring regarding homosexuality (of all stripes).
The media & liberals (a difference?) have only one, truly effective way to counter the Truth, i.e. by either employing an existing word or inventing one. The words “du jour” I have in mind are “hate” and “homophobia”. Simply put; if you do not agree with the homosexual agenda and the propaganda of the homosexual lobby, whether derived from religious thought or common sense, you must either be a “hater” or suffering from a new disease call homophobia. Liberals are insidious in their attempts to “label” anyone who disagrees with them in this manner.
But I refuse to be fooled. I rely on Christ’s Holy Church (Rome) on earth for my direction. To wit:
“Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, Tradition has always declared that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered……………..Under no circumstances can they be approved”.
Ref: Catechism of the Catholic Church No. 2357
In regards to the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Policy”, I am torn between two areas of consideration. On the one hand, homosexuals in the military are putting their lives on the line for all Americans (and the rest of the world) just as assuredly as “straight” soldiers.
However, for the sake of cohesion, it must be said that the atmosphere “in the barracks” and “in the field” may be adversely affected if homosexuals were allowed to serve openly. We may be witness to a measure of mutiny amongst straight soldiers who would prefer not to be in close quarters with a same sex soldier(s) who has the potential for “sexual attraction”.
A recent poll among the ranks found well over 50% of our men and women in the military against repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. I pray our leaders come to a just and effective solution.
Thank you for your insight. Liberals, disingenuously of course, want people to think that those of us who “disagree” with homosexual behavior – for whatever reason – “fear or hate” homosexuals, thus homophobia. No, a disagreement is different than fear. And homophobia is a canard. I love people, all people. What I dislike – viscerally – is injustice. And so when anyone attempts to bastardize the Truth re: homosexuality, attempting to elevate it to the moral equivalency of heterosexuality (and marriage no less!!??), that is unjust and then we must speak out for the Truth.
